The 2025 Big 12 Baseball Tournament Is Wide Open — And That’s What Makes It Fun
The wait is over. The gloves are laced, bats are taped, and the 2025 Big 12 Baseball Tournament is ready to bring the chaos.
Starting Wednesday, May 21, Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas — home of the Texas Rangers — will once again transform into the stage where college baseball’s finest from the Big 12 go head-to-head in a four-day sprint to crown a new champ. And this year? It’s anyone’s game.
There’s no runaway favorite, no towering powerhouse cruising in on a 10-game win streak. Nope. The top five seeds in this year’s bracket were separated by just two games in the regular-season standings. That’s razor thin. It’s not just competitive—it’s a pressure cooker, and we’re about to crank the heat.
New Faces, Big Statements
With the expansion of the Big 12 came new contenders. Arizona and Arizona State, fresh off their move from the Pac-12, are No. 4 and No. 5 seeds, respectively. It’s their first rodeo in Big 12 postseason play, but don’t expect them to play like the new kids on the block. Both teams bring deep rosters, strong pitching rotations, and serious history with pressure-packed baseball.
If one of them pulls off a run and wins the title? That would be quite the statement—and honestly, not all that surprising.
Preseason Favorite Playing Underdog?
Remember when Oklahoma State was the preseason pick to win it all? Well, the Cowboys are coming in as the No. 7 seed after an up-and-down season, but that doesn’t mean they’re down for the count. This team knows how to turn it on when it matters most.
Let’s not forget, OSU won the title in 2024 and has all the postseason experience to pull off another deep run. If they get hot early, no one is going to want to face them in the later rounds. They’re dangerous—especially when people start doubting them.
Regular-Season Top Dogs
West Virginia snagged the top seed with a 40-13 overall record and a 19-9 finish in Big 12 play. Right behind them are Kansas (42-14, 20-10) and TCU (37-17, 19-11), rounding out the top three. These squads have been consistent all year, and they’re loaded on both sides of the ball.
Kansas, in particular, has had a special season. Two straight 30-win campaigns, a high-powered offense, and a pitching staff that’s racked up multiple shutouts. If they keep doing what they’ve done all spring, don’t be shocked to see them hoisting the trophy.
And TCU? Always in the mix. That program knows how to play when the stakes are high.

Notably, UCF and Utah didn’t make the cut this time around.
The tournament runs from May 21 to May 24, with four first-round games kicking things off on Wednesday. From there, it’s a whirlwind—every pitch, every inning matters. The winner earns the Big 12’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament, though several teams in this field already have strong resumes to get in regardless.
But still… there’s something different about winning your conference. Especially in a league this tight.

There’s no sugarcoating it—the 2025 Big 12 Baseball Tournament is going to be a ride. With so much parity and a loaded bracket, this is setting up to be one of the most competitive tournaments we’ve seen in years.
Whether it’s a high seed rolling through the bracket, a Cinderella story rising out of the 8–12 seed range, or one of the Arizona schools taking over in their debut season, we’re in for something wild.
