A Kansas State legacy has turned down the opportunity to follow in his father’s footsteps and instead will further his college career with the Kansas Jayhawks.
Dunnigan made the announcement before the Under Armour All-America game on Thursday afternoon.
JJ Dunnigan is a Class of 2026 prospect, and stands at 6’2”, and 185 pounds, and is a three-star recruit, according to 247Sports. He is the No. 37 cornerback in the Class of 2026 and No. 5 player in the state of Kansas.
Dunnigan was considering Kansas State, Kansas, Stanford and Nebraska, before picking the Jayhawks. Out of Manhattan, Kan., Dunnigan’s father was a former Kansas State cornerback.
“It came down to a battle between K-State and KU,” Dunnigan told On3. “K-State is the hometown school and where my father played at it, but KU came in, rolled the red carpet out, showed us their plan and the Jayhawks just nudged K-State with Nebraska a great school being third.”
Ryan Wallace from GoPowercat wrote about Dunnigan, “Unlike his father, James Dunnigan, a former undersized but scrappy K-State cornerback in 2001-02, the latest Dunnigan in the Little Apple possesses great length at 6-feet-2 and powerful agility at 190 pounds, capable of muscling receivers off the line of scrimmage or overpowering them for contested catches in midair. “
The 2025 Under-Armour All–America Game aired on ESPN.
