Big 12 Team Under Revamp Lands SEC Quarterback in Transfer Portal

The West Virginia Mountaineers have picked up Texas A&M quarterback Jaylen Henderson in the transfer portal.

Henderson shared his news on social media on Saturday.

 

Henderson, 6’3” and 225lbs, came out of West Hills, California as a three-star recruit, according to 247Sports. He was the No. 47 QB in the Class of 2021 and No. 58 player in California.

Henderson did not appear in a game at quarterback in 2024, but in 2023 played in five games where he completed 53-78 passes for 715 yards with 6 touchdowns and two interceptions. He also rushed for 104 yards and two scores. Prior to being at Texas A&M, he was at Fresno State, where he completed 5-8 passes for 49 yards and rushed 68 yards on 14 carries during his two seasons.

Henderson has two years of eligibility remaining. Also this past week, Nicco Marchiol announced he would be returning to WVU. He also has two years of eligibility remaining.

Henderson has played 248 snaps at quarterback over three years on the field and most recently in 2023 graded out at 65.7 according to Pro Football Focus.

The transfer portal officially opened on Monday, December 9, 2024, and remained open until Saturday, December 28, with an exception for players on teams who play bowl games after the window closes. According to NCAA data, 2,273 FBS football players entered the transfer portal in 2023-24 school year, with 1,558 (68.5%) undergraduates and 715 (31.5%) graduate transfers. Of the entrants, 57% reported that they enrolled in another school, 8% withdrew their names from the portal, and 35% are still active, transferred to a non-NCAA school, or left their sport.
