On Saturday, Chris Klieman and the Kansas State Wildcats landed a coveted player in the transfer portal with the addition of South Alabama defensive back Amarion Fortenberry.
Fortenberry, a 5-foot-11 freshman from Columbia, Mississippi, spent his first season of college football with the South Alabama Jaguars.
In his freshman season with the Jaguars, the Mississippi native recorded 45 total tackles, six pass breakups, one forced fumble, and two interceptions. The addition goes a long way for Chris Klieman’s group, as the Wildcats lose both starting cornerbacks, Jacob Parrish and Keenan Garber, in 2025.
Coming out of Columbia High School in the Class of 2024, Fortenberry was listed as a three-star prospect by the 247Sports index and the nation’s 1843rd-ranked prospect. He also checked in as the 170th-ranked player at his position and the 38th-ranked player in the state of Mississippi.
With the addition, the Wildcats have now added a total of nine prospects to their transfer portal class. Fortenberry joins the likes of Nebraska’s Gabe Ervin Jr., Oklahoma’s Jayden Rowe, Arizona’s Gunner Maldonado, Ohio State’s Gabe Powers, West Georgia’s Mar’Quavious Moss, Boston College’s Jerand Bradley, Purdue’s Jaron Tibbs, and USC’s Amos Talalele.
The transfer portal officially opened on Monday, December 9, 2024, and will remain open until Saturday, December 28, with an exception for players on teams who play bowl games after the window closes. According to NCAA data, 2,273 FBS football players entered the transfer portal in 2023-24 school year, with 1,558 (68.5%) undergraduates and 715 (31.5%) graduate transfers. Of the entrants, 57% reported that they enrolled in another school, 8% withdrew their names from the portal, and 35% are still active, transferred to a non-NCAA school, or left their sport.
