On Saturday afternoon, Scott Frost and the UCF Knights added a talented player in the transfer portal with the commitment of former Oklahoma linebacker Lewis Carter.
Carter, a 6-foot sophomore from Tampa, Florida, spent the previous two seasons with the Sooners in Norman.
In the previous two seasons at Oklahoma, Carter has recorded a total of 30 tackles and one forced fumble.
Coming out of Tampa Catholic in the Class of 2023, Carter is listed as a four-star prospect by the 247Sports index and the nation’s 124th-ranked prospect. He also checked in as the 11th-ranked player at his position and the 31st-ranked player in the state of Florida.
With Oklahoma defensive coordinator Zac Alley electing to move to West Virginia and leave the Sooners behind, many expected a Big 12 destination to emerge for the Florida native. That did come true. However, it was the hometown Knights instead of the Mountaineers.
An impressive player in his class, Carter received offers from 42 different teams, including Georgia, West Virginia, USC, UCF, Texas A&M, Tennessee, Oregon, Ohio State, Nebraska, Miami, Iowa State, Georgia Tech, Arizona State, and more.
With his commitment, Carter became UCF’s 22nd addition through the transfer portal cycle this offseason.
The transfer portal officially opened on Monday, December 9, 2024, and will remain open until Saturday, December 28, with an exception for players on teams who play bowl games after the window closes. According to NCAA data, 2,273 FBS football players entered the transfer portal in 2023-24 school year, with 1,558 (68.5%) undergraduates and 715 (31.5%) graduate transfers. Of the entrants, 57% reported that they enrolled in another school, 8% withdrew their names from the portal, and 35% are still active, transferred to a non-NCAA school, or left their sport.
