Lane Kiffin Found a New Pathetic Excuse for Ole Miss and the SEC

Mississippi Rebels head coach Lane Kiffin celebrates a pass interference call as Auburn Tigers take on Mississippi Rebels at Jordan-Hare Stadium in Auburn, Ala., on Saturday, Oct. 21, 2023. Mississippi Rebels defeated Auburn Tigers 28-21.

Lane Kiffin just won’t quit it. He can’t help himself. The guy should be mining the transfer portal, or recruiting a high school kid, or just enjoying life, but instead he’s on X continuing to insist that the College Football Playoff committee screwed up last month by leaving the Ole Miss Rebels out of the 12-team field.

On Monday night, friend of Heartland College Sports, Josh Pate, shared this post on X.

This apparently got Kiffin very excited, so he had to share it and tag the CFB Playoff on X.

The problem with this argument for Kiffin is that it’s a flawed metric.

Sure, Ole Miss lost to Kentucky by 3, LSU by 3 and Florida by 7. In the Florida game, the Gators scored the go-ahead touchdown with around seven minutes left in the game. Against LSU, the Tigers won in overtime. And Kentucky scored its go-ahead touchdown with just over two minutes left in the game.

So basically, Lane Kiffin’s new argument is something like this: “If college football games were only 57 minutes and 30 seconds, we would have been 11-1!” Ole Miss led LSU and Kentucky until the final two minutes.

Congrats. And Ole Miss was also the only conference game Kentucky won all season. Isn’t that worth noting?

And one of the biggest reasons it’s a flawed metric is because the SEC continues to get away with playing eight conference games. That’s one less game they’re likely to trail in.

So throw this hot garbage out the window. The SEC’s dominance is ending. Everyone can pay now. The jig is up. And now the league fan boys have forced themselves into an incredibly undesirable corner where they have to root for the … Texas Longhorns. Enjoy that.
