The Arizona State Sun Devils and the Kansas Jayhawks continue Big 12 Conference men’s basketball action on Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2025, in Lawrence, Kansas.
Tip-off is set for 8 p.m. central on ESPN. The Sun Devils (10-3, 1-1 in Big 12) are currently unranked, while the Jayhawks (10-3, 1-1 in Big 12) check in at No. 11 in the AP Poll.
Wednesday’s matchup between Kansas and Arizona State should be a good one, as both teams have had some impressive moments in conference play. The Sun Devils were receiving votes as a near AP Top 25 team last week before dropping out of the receiving votes category. Kansas dropped from No. 7 to No. 11 after an upset loss to No. 21 West Virginia but bounced back with a big win vs. UCF.
Here is a preview of Wednesday’s game.

Arizona State vs. Kansas Predictions
The Sun Devils enter Allen Fieldhouse with a 1-1 record after a 20-point win over Colorado and a 20-point loss to BYU. The concerning statistic for Bobby Hurley’s group has been their record in true road games this season with back-to-back losses on the road. ASU dropped a road game early in the season, 88-80, to Gonzaga and is coming off of a 76-56 loss to the Cougars in Provo.
The team is led by a group of four athletes scoring in double figures, including Basheer Jihad, Joson Sanon, BJ Freeman, and Alston Mason, who combine for 49.8 points per game. ASU, a streaky athletic team, also has the benefit of an NBA-level freshman on the court with freshman forward Jayden Quaintance, who is currently posting a near double-double with 9.4 points and 8.2 rebounds per game.
On the other side of the court, Kansas seems to have turned over a new leaf following their loss on opening night to West Virginia. The Jayhawks switched up the starting lineup and are playing through the sizeable duo of Hunter Dickinson and Flory Bidunga. Dickinson is fresh off of a 27-point, nine-rebound game against UCF on Sunday.
In addition to their talented bigs, Bill Self’s group is led by the backcourt duo of South Dakota State transfer Zeke Mayo and veteran guard Duajuan Harris. Mayo and Harris are second and third on the team in scoring, combining for 24.4 points, 6.3 rebounds, and nine assists per game.
