While the transfer portal cycle continues to change daily, two teams from the Big 12 Conference were listed with some of the top 10 additions in the transfer portal.
The first team listed is Colorado with their addition of Liberty quarterback Kaidon Salter, followed by Texas Tech and the addition of USC running back Quinten Joyner.
Kaidon Salter
“Deion Sanders landed 2025 top-100 quarterback recruit Juju Lewis towards the end of the cycle,” On3’s Pete Nakos wrote. “But Colorado is losing Shedeur Sanders, and bringing in a proven quarterback was a must as Lewis develops. The Buffaloes added one of the top transfer portal quarterbacks in Kaidon Salter. Over his career at Liberty, Salter appeared in 35 games. He’s thrown for 5,887 yards, 56 touchdowns and 17 interceptions while rushing for 2,013 yards and 21 more scores. Salter can help Sanders contend for a Big 12 title again in 2025.”
Salter, a 6-foot-1 junior from Liberty, was a major transfer portal candidate following the conclusion of the 2023 season. He posted 2,876 yards and a touchdown to interception ratio of 32-6 as a redshirt sophomore. He elected to return to Liberty for his junior season, however, the team struggled, and Salter’s numbers took a considerable dip. He still checked in as a top 100 player on the On3 Industry Rankings and a Top 15 quarterback available in the portal.
Quinten Joyner
“With Texas Tech losing the program’s all-time leading rusher Tahj Brooks, who closed his career with 4,560 yards, the Red Raiders had to dip into the portal,” Nakos said. “The biggest free agency winner of the cycle was Texas Tech, and they found the answer in Quinten Joyner. The redshirt freshman has rushed for 81 career carries for 603 yards, averaging 7.4 yards. Joyner has the potential to become the next great Texas Tech back.”
After watching legendary running back Tahj Brooks complete his career in Lubbock as one of the program’s best running backs, the Red Raiders had a considerable hole to fill in the backfield. Insert USC transfer, Quinten Joyner. In his first two seasons of college football, Joyner averaged 6.9 and 7.6 yards per carry and will now head to a run-heavy offense in Lubbock as a Red Raider.
