The American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) convention is being held this week in Charlotte, North Carolina, and we’ve already seen the powers there start to tackle some of the biggest issues facing college football today.

Earlier this morning, Ross Dellenger reported that there are ongoing discussions at the convention concerning a potential answer for the rash of fake injuries in the sport.

Now, Dellenger’s got another report that could spell significant changes to the transfer portal.

“AFCA head coaches are proposing to move the transfer portal to a 10-day window in early January after bowl games with spring window eliminated (except for graduate transfers),” Dellenger wrote originally.

Then, around 20 minutes after that report, Dellenger provided an update, via Craig Bohl, the head of the AFCA.

According to Dellenger, FBS coaches in attendance voted unanimously to eliminate the December and April transfer portal windows in favor of a single 10-day window in January.

In addition to the portal window change in December, the AFCA would also like to change a quiet period in December to a dead period for recruiting, per Brandon Marcello.

With the proposals passing through the AFC without any trouble, the recommendations will now be taken to the NCAA Football Oversight Committee (FOC), which is ultimately responsible for deciding whether or not the changes will be made.

The FOC is made up of 15 individuals, primarily athletic directors, and is scheduled to meet in person on February 10-11 at the NCAA Headquarters in Indianapolis.
