On Wednesday, Lance Leipold and the Kansas Jayhawks added a talented in-state prospect in the Class of 2026 with the addition of four-star EDGE Hunter Higgins.

Higgins, a 6-foot-5 pass rusher from Wichita, Kansas, committed to the Jayhawks over Nebraska, Wisconsin, and Michigan.

“I want to be part of the recruiting classes that turn this great state around, and that’s why I’ll be committing to the University of Kansas,” Higgins said during his commitment ceremony.

Coming out of Maize South High School in the Class of 2026, Higgins is listed as a four-star prospect by the 247Sports index and the nation’s 429th-ranked player. He also checks in as the 27th-ranked player at his position and the fourth-ranked player in the state of Kansas.

An impressive player in his class, Higgins received offers from a total of 17 different programs. He chose the Jayhawks over Oklahoma, Kansas State, Nebraska, Michigan, Ole Miss, USC, Texas Tech, Oklahoma State, Missouri, Iowa State, Arkansas, and more.

With the addition, Higgins becomes the highest-ranked player in the Jayhawks 2026 recruiting class, joining three-star defensive back JJ Dunnigan, three-star cornerback Lennie Brown, and quarterback Jaylen Mason.

While it’s still early in the 2026 recruiting cycle, Kansas has had an impressive start to the class and checks in as the Big 12’s second-ranked group and the No. 26 class in the nation.
