It all comes down to this. Two of the winningest programs in college football history converge on Atlanta, Georgia, with their sights set on winning a national championship, and effectively reaching the pinnacle of the sport for the first time in quite some time. The Buckeyes have gone 10 years since winning their last national title, while the Fighting Irish haven’t lifted the season’s final trophy since the 1988 season.
College football has changed significantly since the Buckeyes’ last title, but it doesn’t look anything like it did the last time that Notre Dame won it all. Still, these two historic programs find themselves in a familiar spot, and it just feels right.
Ohio State is deserving of the love it’s been getting throughout the playoffs, and there’s no question that they’re the more talented team from top to bottom, especially with the Irish’s injuries starting to pile up.
I don’t see the blowout that so many seem to be predicting, and I think that there’s a path to victory for Notre Dame. However, I think Jeremiah Smith gets back on track in this game against the top passing defense in college football. Meanwhile, the Irish are banged up, and though they’ll put up one heck of a fight, I think the Buckeyes do enough to build a lead and hold onto it.
