According to a report from USA Today, Colorado football has been with a minor NCAA recruiting violation after Deion Sanders mentioned quarterback recruit Julian “JuJu” Lewis during a live stream of his weekly coaches show.

This violation was self-reported by the Colorado athletic department, which took down the videos in question and also imposed “corrective measures” to help ensure that there’s no repeat offense. These measures include additional rules education for Sanders and a reduction of four in-person recruiting days during the contact period of spring 2025, according to USA Today.

Additionally, Colorado says that it will “implement new institutional controls on the football weekly coaches show,” per their report to the NCAA.

“The content will no longer be livestreamed,” the school wrote, via USA Today. “External relatons will therefore be able to review and edit content that could be construed as impermissible publicity of (recruits).”

The “violation” occurred in November, and was simply caused by Sanders mentioning a recruit specifically by name before the first day of early signing period (Dec. 4).

NCAA rules prohibit coaches and schools from publicizing or commenting on recruits before they officially sign with a program.

The Buffs’ report detailed a total of six self-reported violations, none of which are expected to have a notable effect on Colorado’s program.

Deion Sanders is fresh off leading Colorado to a 9-4 season in his second year with the program, and it seems increasingly likely that he’ll return to Boulder next season despite being tied to the job opening with the Dallas Cowboys.
