One of the best games in college basketball took place on Saturday night, with the Houston Cougars rallying back to beat the Kansas Jayhawks in double overtime.
After the win, Houston coach Kelvin Sampson, a fairly stoic individual, celebrated the win in a big way with his teammate in the locker room.
Sampson was seen dancing with his team while the group chanted lyrics to the popular song “Take Over Your Trap” by Bankroll Fresh.
While things looked incredibly bleak within the final 30 seconds of the first overtime period, Houston found a way to pull off a miraculous comeback. According to data from KenPom and college basketball stat guru Jared Benson, the Houston Cougars only had a .4% chance to win when Kansas had the ball up by six points with 20 seconds left in the first overtime.
In overtime, it was Milos Uzan who found Emanuel Sharp for a three-pointer in the final 10 seconds that cut KU’s lead to 79-76. And then, with KU trying to inbound in the final seconds, Uzan had the key steal that led to a Mylik Wilson three-pointer to tie the game at 79 and miraculously force a second overtime in Lawrence.
With the win, Houston advanced to 8-0 in league play and remains the lone undefeated group. They sit one game ahead of Arizona and No. 3 Iowa State who each hold 7-1 records.
