Earlier this month, Iowa State learned that it would have to move forward without forward Milan Momcilovic due to an injury to his non-dominant hand that would require a cast and sideline him for five to six weeks.

It was no small loss, as Momcilovic have averaged 10.3 points and 3.5 rebounds per game while shooting 44% from three-point range.

On Thursday morning, Iowa State head coach T.J. Otzelberger provided a positive update on Momcilovic’s recovery progress.

“[The] cast is off,” Otzelberger said, according to 247Sports. “He’s doing strengthening exercises. I don’t know where we’re at in that time right now. What are we at? Week three? I would say four [weeks] is probably aggressive, but we’ll see.”

Momcilovic suffered the injury during practice and had surgery to repair the issue ahead of Iowa State’s 108-83 win over UCF on January 21. The recovery time for the injury was said to be 4-6 weeks at the time, placing his window of opportunity to return starting somewhere around Iowa State’s road trip to Houston on February 22.

Iowa State has gone 2-2 since Momcilovic was removed from the lineup, but still ranks as the No. 3 team in the country with a 17-3 overall record and a 7-2 record in Big 12 play.

Iowa State will host Kansas State for a 1:00 p.m. CT tip on Saturday, with coverage on ESPN2.
