Johntay Cook, a former five-star prospect in the class of 2023, is no stranger to making headlines. Unfortunately, the headlines have rarely been related to his play on the field.

From his comments about Texas’ swimming trophies during a recruiting visit to talking trash on Quinn Ewers after leaving the Longhorns’ program to transfer to Washington, and then subsequently being dropped by the Huskies, it’s been a wild ride for DeSoto (TX) native.

Once again, Cook finds himself in the spotlight on Tuesday morning, but this time around it appears he’s found real trouble.

As first reported by On3, Cook has been arrested on multiple charges and booked into the Lon Evans Corrections Center in Fort Worth early on Tuesday morning.

Among the charges against him, according to the Tarrant County Inmate Logs, are interference with public duties and misdemeanor theft (property value of greater than or equal to $100, but less than $750).

Cook spent the last two seasons at Texas and appeared in 19 games for the Longhorns, posting just 16 receptions for 273 yards and two touchdowns.

As one of the top players in the Class of 2023, Cook had a bright, athletic future based on potential alone, but as of now, it appears he’s squandered his opportunity to live up to those expectations.
