Kansas State vs. Arizona State Predictions

Since starting off conference play 1-6 through their first seven games, Kansas State has turned over a new leaf. The group has won three straight against No. 23 West Virginia, Oklahoma State, and No. 3 Iowa State and has their eyes set on a fourth vs. ASU. Over their last three games, the Wildcats have been playing the nation’s best basketball, ranked as the No. 1 team in offensive and defensive efficiency metrics for the span.

Is that the new norm for Kansas State, or is it just a hot streak? That’s the question on the mind of Big 12 fans everywhere as the group continues to shine in league play. Arizona State will have the next shot at cooling down the red-hot Wildcats, led by the star duo of Dug McDaniel and Coleman Hawkins. The duo has been averaging 29.3 points, 9.7 assists, and 9.3 rebounds per game on just under 43% shooting from the field.

Arizona State enters the game after a wildly turbulent matchup against their in-state rival Arizona, a game that saw both BJ Freeman and Caleb Love ejected. The Sun Devils fell 81-72, dropping to 2-2 in their previous four games.

Despite speculation of a possible suspension awarded to Freeman for headbutting Caleb Love in the matchup, the North Carolina native is expected to be active against the Wildcats. He is the team’s leading scorer this year, averaging 12.8 points per game. He is also joined by five other scorers averaging double-figures, including Basheer Jihad, Joson Sanon, Alston Mason, Adam Miller, and Jayden Quaintance.

When looking at statistics, neither team has a glaring advantage this season, as both offenses check in at No. 10 and No. 11 (Big 12 ranks) and defenses at No. 11 and No. 13. That being said, since Kansas State has flipped the script, the group is averaging 5.7 more points per game and surrendering 10.7 fewer points per game.
