Kansas State entered the 2024 season with a new quarterback under center, with the group electing to name sophomore Avery Johnson the starter in Manhattan.
Johnson showed flashy moments and some rookie mistakes in his first taste as the starting quarterback, leading the Wildcats to a comeback win in the Rate Bowl against Rutgers. Chris Klieman’s group finished off the year at 9-4, marking the fourth-straight season with eight or more wins. The team returns the bulk of their production from the previous season and should have a shot to contend for a Big 12 Championship in 2025.
Here’s a look at what stands in their way.

Schedule Breakdown
Week Zero kicks off Kansas State in Ireland in the Aer Lingus Classic vs. Iowa State in an international Farmageddon matchup. The winner of the matchup will enter the non-conference slate with a massive win on the stat sheet, and yes, the game does count toward league standings in Big 12 Conference play.
Because of this, the Wildcats were rewarded with three bye weeks, which should allow the team to get plenty of rest. On the inverse of the 2024 season, Kansas State received more home games than away games, with six games in Manhattan and five games elsewhere (Ireland neutral site).
The biggest test for K-State will come in the final three weeks of the season, closing out with back-to-back road games in Stillwater and Salt Lake City before a senior day matchup vs. Colorado in Manhattan. If they can make it through that final test, they should have a great shot at punching a ticket to Arlington.
