The 2025 college softball season is set to get underway on Thursday, and despite losing two of the top three teams in the country to the SEC, the Big 12 will be center stage for the first weekend of action.
Softball America has made a list of the top games they’re looking forward to in the first weekend of games, and the Big 12 not only has four of the top 10 games but is featured in the top three games.
Check out the list from Softball America below:
The top overall game of the weekend is No. 4 Oklahoma State vs. No. 10 Florida State, which will be held at the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge. There are actually two games between the Cowgirls and the Seminoles, with the first contest on Thursday at 10:00 p.m. CT and the second on Sunday at 7:00 p.m. CT.
No. 9 Texas Tech vs. No. 21 Nebraska is the No. 2 matchup of the weekend, and it feels like it might be the biggest head-to-head pitching battle that we’ve seen in years, with NiJaree Canady and Jordy Bahl potentially facing off against one another on Saturday (3:00 p.m. CT) in the Clearwater Invitational.
Next, at No. 3 on the list, is No. 16 Baylor facing No. 7 Texas A&M at the Aggie Classic in College Station. The Bears and Aggies both made it to Super Regionals a season ago and pushed Florida and Texas to a winner-take-all Game 3 before bowing out.
Finally, listed as the seventh-best game of the weekend is No. 14 Arizona taking on No. 11 Alabama on Saturday (5:00 p.m. CT) at the Candrea Classic in Tucson, Arizona.
It should be an action-packed opening weekend of softball, and luckily for Big 12 fans, there’s plenty of familiar teams set to be in the spotlight.
