Kansas State is coming off a nine-win campaign that saw them finish with four losses in Big 12 play, two of which came by one possession.

But, with uber-talented pieces like Avery Johnson and Dylan Edwards returning, it’s fair to wonder how much better K-State might be this season.

In fact, there’s reason to believe that the Wildcats could even be a great team in 2025. Ohio State transfer offensive lineman George Fitzpatrick says he’s seen what it takes to go the distance, and he thinks that his new team has the pieces.

I’ve seen what it takes to go to the national championship,” Fitzpatrick said, according to Toby Hammes of the Kansas State Collegian,” and I think we have the group to do it here.”

Fitzpatrick also said that he talked to former K-State quarterback Will Howard about the decision, and that the former Wildcat said he’d fit right in in Manhattan.

“Will and I got really close. Will’s a great guy. He just came in and clearly took over the locker room,” Fitzpatrick said. “Will said that I’d fit right in (at K-State), that they’re all great guys. And it’s a great program.”

Winning a national championship in 2025 would be lofty expectations for the Cats, but Fitzpatrick would definitely know what a national championship team looks like, considering he stuck around and played for the Buckeyes throughout their College Football Playoff National Championship run this past season.

K-State will open up its 2025 season against Iowa State in the Aer Lingus College Classic in Dublin, Ireland, on August 23.
