On Saturday, Jerome Tang and the Kansas State Wildcats earned their fifth win in a row, taking down their in-state rival, Kansas, in the second Sunflower Showdown matchup of 2024-25.

One of the players who was instrumental in the win was junior point guard Dug McDaniel, who provided an interesting quote in the post-game.

While the Wildcats led for more than 37 minutes of the basketball game vs. Kansas and came away with an eight-point win, McDaniel mentioned that the Wildcats “should have beaten them by more.”

McDaniel was incredible against Kansas, posting a double-double and a new career-high in assists. He recorded a near triple-double with 15 points, 11 assists, and six rebounds in the team’s 81-73 win.

In the matchup, Kansas State was dominant offensively over the Jayhawks, scoring at an efficient clip. The Wildcats connected on 50% of shots from the field and 40.7% from three. The win was their fourth-straight game with double-digit three-pointers made, three of which came from McDaniel.

Kansas State’s season has been a rollercoaster, but their latest win brought them back to 6-6 in conference play—an impressive recovery from their 1-6 start. While they didn’t get the result they wanted against Kansas, their upcoming showdown with Arizona presents another major test. Bettors keeping an eye on March Madness Odds 2025 will want to watch how the Wildcats perform down the stretch. If they keep winning, they could become a sneaky tournament pick with rising odds as Selection Sunday approaches.

Kansas State takes on No. 20 Arizona on Tuesday, February 11th, at 7:00 p.m. central.
