It was another chaotic weekend of college basketball, with upsets, blowouts, and everything in between happening around the country.
The Big 12 was no stranger to the madness either, as we saw surging Kansas State keep things rolling with a win over KU, Arizona handing Texas Tech its first loss since January 11, and Iowa State get back in the win column with a 30-point victory over TCU
On Monday, the Associated Press released its latest Top 25, and the Big 12 maintains five teams in the rankings, and one of them was the biggest riser of the week.
Let’s take a look at where each Big 12 team rankings in the Week 15 Poll.
Houston (19-4) – No. 6
Houston remained undefeated in true road games this weekend with a 69-59 win over Colorado. The Coogs will host Baylor on Monday night (ESPN) and will need a win to stay tied about the Big 12 with Arizona before their colossal matchup on Saturday.
Iowa State (18-5) – No. 10
Iowa State rebounded from a three-game losing streak with an 82-52 win over TCU on Saturday. The Cyclones’ offense looked much better with Milan Momcilovic back on the court, as he added 14 points in his first game back from injury. ISU scored 80+ points just one time in their seven-game stretch without Momcilovic, and has topped 80 in 14 of 16 games with him in the lineup.
Texas Tech (18-5) – No. 12
Well, the winning streak comes to an end at seven games, but the Red Raiders appear to be one of the best teams in the country despite their loss to Arizona. TTU is one of nine teams that fits the KenPom national championship criteria heading into mid-February and can make a deep run with the play of JT Toppin and Chance McMillian.
Arizona (17-6) – No. 13
The Wildcats are the biggest riser in the AP Poll this week, up seven spots after the 82-73 win over Texas Tech. With the victory, Arizona has avenged its only Big 12 loss of the season and will head into a crucial week with games against a red-hot Kansas State and sixth-ranked Houston.
Kansas (16-7) – No. 17
Kansas basketball is a real-life roller coaster, and is now 4-4 in its last eight games, with alternating wins and losses over their last six contests. Road losses at Baylor and Kansas State sandwiched around a 17-point beatdown of Iowa State is a perfect microcosm of what KU is right now—completely unpredictable.
