One of the biggest storylines since Inauguration Day 2025 has been Elon Musk’s approach to cut government spending as the head of the new Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).

Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy are slashing federal spending to help slow a national debt that has risen to an all-time high of $36 trillion.

It’s become a massive talking point across social media and news outlets, as Democratic lawmakers and critics of the new department have made all kinds of noise about the new cost-cutting tactics.

One of the country’s biggest media entities—The New York Times—has long been associated with a strong left bias, meaning their editors and writers naturally oppose the new approach to spending taxpayer dollars.

The NYT’s TikTok account recently released a video attempting to convince readers that DOGE is harming the government by using the same approach he did when buying Twitter in 2022. However, Jeffery Mead, a former wide receiver at Oklahoma and now social media influencer, posted his own video debunking those claims—and Musk approves.

His retweet of the video, with over 4.4M views, has a simple caption, “Excellent summary of the game plan.”

Mead spent four seasons at Oklahoma, with 22 receptions for 314 yards and four touchdowns over 11 starts and 38 appearances.

His TikTok account (the_jefferymead) has 2 million followers and 48.4 million likes, so it’s safe to say he’s found a successful venture after football.

As of Sunday, DOGE has reported more cuts in excess of $1 billion in government spending, with a stated goal of cutting as much as $2 trillion from the annual budget.
