The 2025 Big 12 Football schedule dropped last week and now that the NFL season is over, we are all going to be itching for some football by the end of the week. Heck, I’m already itching for it, and it’s only the Monday after the Super Bowl.
So now that we have to wait for August to get real football back, I’m already mapping out the Big 12 football season. And as I went week-by-week, I found the best week of Big 12 football in 2025, and it comes at the perfect time of the year.
The best week of Big 12 football next fall is Week 8, which comes on Saturday, October 18th, 2025.

Week 8 Big 12 Football Schedule 2025
- Houston vs. Arizona
- Arizona State vs. Texas Tech
- TCU vs. Baylor
- BYU vs. Utah
- UCF vs. West Virginia
- Oklahoma State vs. Cincinnati
Now, there are multiple bye weeks that week, but you have three incredible games that will have major Big 12 implications, and two of the best rivalries in the Big 12 being played as well.
Arizona State vs. Texas Tech will be a game for positioning in the Big 12 standings between two programs who will feel like they have a real chance to win the conference next fall. Both teams will be coming off big games as well, with ASU playing at Utah, and Texas Tech playing Kansas, in Week 7.
Then, you have Baylor vs. TCU and the Holy War. Let’s start with Baylor vs. TCU, which is a big game because of the rivalry, and also will have Big 12 implications this fall. Baylor was one of the hottest teams in the league at the end of the 2024 season (winning six of seven) and could be a trendy pick in 2025. And the same can be said for TCU. The TCU Horned Frogs also won six of their last seven games to end 2024. Oh, and it seems like these two teams always play great games, with last year’s 37-34 win by Baylor just another example of that.
Then, there’s the Holy War, which returned in 2024 to much fanfare and certainly lived up to the hype. Utah nearly pulled off the upset, but it was the Cougars hanging on for the 22-21 victory. This remains one of the best rivalries in college sports. And since the Big 12 has lost some big ones in recent years (Bedlam, Red River, etc.), getting to own this game is critical for the Big 12 Conference moving forward.
The other three games do not look great on paper, right now. But if there is one thing we can predict about the Big 12, it’s that it will be unpredictable. So I guarantee one of those three other games will surprise us come mid-October.
So if there’s a day where you have to tell the significant other/fiancé/spouse that you are off limits for apple or pumpkin picking, or if you have a buddy looking at a fall wedding (shame on him), please make sure he is aware that as a die hard Big 12 fan, October 18th, 2025 is a no-go.
You will learn who are your real friends!
