It appears the musical chairs resulting from Conor Riley’s departure to become the Dallas Cowboys offensive line coach have finally come to a stop as Kansas State has completed the backfilling of its offensive staff.
On Monday morning, the Wildcats announced the addition of Luke Wells, a veteran offensive coach who has spent time with three different Big 12 programs over the course of his career. Wells will coach tight ends, a position previously held by Brian Lepak before he was promoted to coach the offensive line.
“Luke brings an extensive amount of coaching experience and recruiting energy to our tight end room, which of course has been a big piece to our recent offensive success,” Klieman said in a release from the program. “I have known Luke for quite a while and even visited with him during previous position openings, and we are thrilled to have him and his family in our program.”
Wells played quarterback at Oklahoma from 1997-99 and was a graduate assistant with the Sooners from 1999-2001, making him a part of the staff that won the 2000 BCS National Championship.
His other stops in the Big 12 include a tenure at Iowa State (2009-12) coaching wide receivers and tight ends and a three-year stint at Texas Tech under the same position.
Wells is the brother of recently promoted offensive coordinator Matt Wells, and has previously worked with him at both Utah State and Texas Tech.
“I am grateful for the opportunity from Coach Klieman to help this staff and be a part of the winning culture at K-State,” Wells said. “I can’t wait to get to work with our talented group of tight ends.”
Wells will have the pleasure of coaching the highest-rated recruit in Kansas State football history, as Goodland (KS) five-star product Linkon Cure was the No. 30 overall prospect in the 2025 class.
