On Wednesday afternoon, Jerome Tang and the Kansas State Wildcats added their first player in the class of 2025 with the addition of Mississippi forward Ashton Magee.

Magee, a 6-foot-7 forward from Ellisville, Mississippi, is fresh off of a weekend visit to Kansas State, where he watched the Wildcats take down Colorado, 65-56.

Coming out of South Jones High School in the Class of 2025, Jones is listed as an unranked prospect by the 247Sports index. ESPN is the lone recruiting service to put a number on Magee’s talent, listing the Mississippi native as a four-star prospect, the 31st-ranked player at his position, and the third-ranked player in the state of Mississippi.

“On top of Kansas State being a great program, I had great conversations with Coach Tang,” Magee told 247Sports’ Dushawn London. “Everything I heard was pretty great, honestly. They were genuine and explained how, at Kansas State, everything is earned and not given. So, you have to work for things that you want. Coach Tang also has a history of ministry, so that was big for me as well. I like how he uses the space.”

Magee chose the Wildcats over offers from 13 different programs, including Ole Miss, New Mexico State, USF, Georgia State, Nicholls State, Norfolk State, and more. He becomes the first future Wildcat in the Class of 2025 and the first commitment since four-star point guard David Castillo in 2024.

Magee finished his thoughts by saying, ” The fans can expect a great young guy with high character and a lot of intangibles that can’t be taught. I just want to win every day and take it day by day. Some days it’ll be tough, so I just win and get better every day I can.”
