It’s become a popular opinion among college football programs that canceling their annual spring game is the best thing to do ahead of the 2025 season.

Earlier this week, Oklahoma became the latest high-profile program to do so, following the precedent set by programs like Nebraska, Ohio State, Texas, USC, and Alabama.

Today, Texas Tech head coach Joey McGuire made an announcement concerning the Red Raiders spring game.

According to the Lubbock Avalance-Journal’s Don Williams, TTU’s spring game is in no immediate danger.

“We are going to have a spring game,” McGuire said, according to Williams. “We’re going to draft the teams, as long as we’re healthy enough to do that, and we should. Our numbers are really good.

“We won’t televise it, but we are going to have a spring game, so everybody come to Lubbock, Texas, on April 19 and come watch the spring game.”

One of the biggest reasons schools are starting to cancel their spring game plans is fear of other programs poaching players from them.

Well, it appears Texas Tech is just going to avoid the potential scouting by other teams by just keeping the game off the airwaves.

The Red Raiders will play their annual spring game on April 19, their last day of spring football.
