Is there anything better than cold beer and baseball? It’s a combination that is hard to beat during the season. No matter what kind of beer you drink (or how many), let’s take a look at some of the best action on the Big 12 baseball diamond from Friday with a nice six pack.

Best Game

Arizona vs Pepperdine

We had a classic pitching battle out in the desert on Friday night between Tommy Scavone (Pepperdine) and Collin McKinney (Arizona). Both teams didn’t score a single run in the first five innings. But Pepperdine struck first in the sixth by putting a run on the board.

The Wildcats did tie the game in the bottom of the sixth before Garen Caulfield gave Arizona the lead in the eighth.

Thanks to more great pitching, Arizona was able to hold on to the lead against Pepperdine.

Best Win

TCU

After a tough series last weekend against Southern Miss, the Horned Frogs hosted Fresno State this weekend for a three-game series. The Bulldogs are the favorites to win the Mountain West this season, but TCU got the best of them on Friday in Fort Worth.

The Horned Frogs got off to a quick 8-0 lead in the second inning and never looked back. Colton Griffin had the highlight of the day with his solo blast in the second inning that got things going for TCU.

From there, the bullpen came through and held on for the 9-4 win.

Worst Loss

Texas Tech

Coming into the weekend, I was worried about the Red Raiders with their road trip to Grand Canyon this weekend. Texas Tech has the worst team ERA in the Big 12 and once again their poor pitching reared its ugly head on Friday night. The Red Raiders gave up a whopping 12 runs to Antelopes and ten of those runs came in the eighth inning.

Friday MVP

Houston LF Cade Climie

Cade had an all-time performance against Grambling on Friday. He hit two home runs including a grand slam in the first inning. Case finished with a total of five RBIs which played a big role in Houston’s big win.

Pitcher of the Day

Arizona State LHP Ben Jacobs

Ben pitched lights out against Gonzaga on Friday evening. He went six innings, struck out six batters and didn’t allow a single run. In fact, he allowed just one hit during his time on the mound.

Best Home Run

Houstons Tre Broussard

Anyone who knows me knows that I am a sucker for a grand slam and Tre Broussard delivered an epic oppo taco grand salami.
