Is there anything better than cold beer and baseball? It’s a combination that is hard to beat during the season. No matter what kind of beer you drink (or how many), let’s take a look at some of the best action on the Big 12 baseball diamond from Sunday with a nice six pack.
Best Game
Kansas vs Milwaukee
There weren’t many close games in the Big 12 on Sunday but Kansas and Milwaukee were one of them. In fact, it was the only game that went to extra innings. As crazy as it sounds, the Panthers jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first inning.
Kansas ended up cutting the lead in half in the third inning thanks to Brady Counsell’s home run.
Milwaukee put another run on the board in the fifth to make it a 7-3 game, but Kansas came roaring back in the sixth inning by putting up a six-spot highlighted by Jackson Hauge’s two-run blast that gave the Jayhawks the lead.
The Panthers would tie the game in the eighth inning with a home run, but the Jayhawks would have the last laugh in extras thanks to Brady Counsell.
Best Win
TCU over Fresno State
The Horned Frogs came into the weekend needing a bounce back series after falling to Southern Miss at home last weekend. Well, they did just that by completing a sweep over the Bulldogs on Sunday afternoon in Fort Worth with a nice 12-6 win where they scored ten unanswered runs.
Worst Loss
Texas Tech
It seems like the Red Raiders are becoming quite comfortable in this column due to the fact that they keep losing games. They needed a win against Grand Canyon to avoid being swept but they ended up losing 4-2 which was a bit surprising since their pitching has been the problem all season long and on Sunday, it was the bats that couldn’t get going.
Sunday MVP
Oklahoma State 1B Colin Brueggmann
Collin had an outstanding performance in game two of Oklahoma State’s doubleheader against Illinois State on Sunday. He hit two home runs and finished with a team high five RBIs.
Pitcher of the Day
UCF RHP Dom Stagliano
I am a bit surprised to see it’s taken Dom this long to earn my pitcher of the week, but he certainly earned it on Sunday against Monmouth. Dom pitched six innings and gave up just four hits and zero runs on the day. He is UCF’s ace and it’s always good to get a great performance from your ace before conference play starts.
Best Home Run
Kansas RF Jackson Hauge
Jackson’s two-run blast in the sixth inning gave Kansas the lead over Milwaukee in a game that went to extras.
