The BYU Cougars and the Iowa State Cyclones continue Big 12 Conference men’s basketball action on Thursday, March 13th, 2025, in Kansas City for the Big 12 Tournament.
Tip-off is set for 11:30 a.m. central on ESPN2 and ESPN+. Iowa State (24-8, 13-7 in Big 12) checks in at No. 12, while BYU (23-8, 14-6) is listed at No. 17 in the AP Top 25.
Thursday’s game between BYU and Iowa State kicks off the first game of the third round in the Big 12 Tournament, where the winner will continue to play again on Friday, and the loser heads home. Iowa State enters the game after bouncing Cincinnati out of the tournament with a dominant 76-56 win on Wednesday.

In an effort to not bury the lead here, the biggest storyline in this game is the health of two of Iowa State’s stars. Both Keshon Gilbert and Tamin Lipsey suffered injuries in Iowa State’s first game of the Big 12 Tournament, which is grounds for concern.
Lipsey left the game with what appeared to be a lower-body injury, while Gilbert suffered a new injury. In recent weeks, Gilbert had been rehabbing a muscle strain, and upon making his return to the court, he suffered a groin injury and played just 11 minutes.
Gilbert spoke after the game vs. Colorado about the injury and mentioned that it was something he’d been dealing with since the first game of conference play.
BYU poses a massive threat to Iowa State in the Big 12 Tournament, as the Cougars have been the Big 12’s hottest team over the past month. BYU has won their last eight games, dating all the way back to a loss on February 8th against Cincinnati.
In their last outing, BYU outlasted Iowa State in a double overtime win in Ames, 88-85. If Lipsey or Gilbert is sidelined for the game, it’ll be tough sledding for Iowa State.
