Is there anything better than cold beer and baseball? It’s a combination that is hard to beat during the season. No matter what kind of beer you drink (or how many), let’s take a look at some of the best action on the Big 12 baseball diamond from Saturday with a nice six pack.

Best Game

UCF at BYU

It’s not often that you see a snow delay in a Big 12 baseball game, but this is not your father’s Big 12 anymore. This conference is spread out across the country, and it was very crazy to see a baseball field covered in snow before the first pitch.

While the weather may have been cold in Provo, this game had plenty of heat to it. After Lex Boedicker’s RBI single in the ninth inning, UCF had a 7-2 lead. But the Cougars didn’t go away easily as they scored four runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to pull within one with a runner on second.

But UCF ended up closing things out with a double play to end the game and take the series with a 7-6 victory in Provo.

Best Win

Kansas over Baylor

I thought about putting Texas Tech, Kansas State, Arizona, or UCF here but it’s really hard for me to ignore what Kansas is doing right now. After crushing Baylor 9-1 on Friday night, they went out Saturday and put 14 runs on the board.

The Jayhawks hit six home runs against the Bears and of course Big 12 home run leader Jackson Hauge hit two on Saturday.

With the win, Kansas takes the series and moves to 2-0 in Big 12 play as they look to complete the sweep on Sunday.

Worst Loss

TCU

I have been covering Big 12 baseball for five years now and I can honestly say that I have never seen a game as lopsided as the TCU/Arizona State game on Saturday. The Sun Devils had a 24-0 lead going into eighth inning before TCU decided to wake up and score some runs. This was by far the most embarrassing performance I have ever seen from TCU since I started covering the sport.

Saturday MVP

Arizona State CF Isaiah Jackson

The Sun Devils absolutely crushed TCU on Saturday afternoon and Isaiah Jackson played a big role in the game. Jackson smacked two home runs against the Horned Frogs and had a team high six RBIs on the day.

Pitcher of the Day

Arizona State RHP Jack Martinez

For the second time this season, Jack Martinez has taken home my pitcher of the day award. Against TCU, Jack went five and two-third innings and allowed just two hits. He also managed to strike out seven batters during his time on the mound.

Best Home Run

Kansas State SS Maximus Martin

Maximus is quickly becoming one of the best players in the Big 12 and he showed us why on Saturday against Utah with this incredible grand slam in the third inning.
