The 2025 NCAA Tournament selection committee has given the Iowa State Cyclones the No. 3 seed in the South Regional.

Iowa State will take on Lipscomb on Friday in Milwaukee. The winner will play either No. 6 Seed Ole Miss or No. 11 seed San Diego State/North Carolina (play-in game) in the second round of the 2025 NCAA Tournament.

Lipscomb went 25-9 this season and won the Atlantic Sun Conference regular season title and conference tournament. This is their second ever trip to the NCAA Tournament, with the first one coming in 2018, when they lost as a No. 15 seed in the first round to North Carolina.

Last season, the Cyclones were the No. 2 seed in the East Regional. Iowa State wound up losing to Illinois in the Sweet 16 by a score of 72-69.

Iowa State Basketball Information Ahead of March Madness

Iowa State finished the regular season with a 24-9 record, including a 13-7 record in Big 12 play. Recently, the Cyclones were bounced from the Big 12 Tournament in a 96-92 loss to BYU.

The Cyclones are led by a multitude of talented players, which was reflected on the All-Big 12 teams this year. Four different Iowa State athletes were awarded post-season honors, including Curtis Jones (First Team), Joshua Jefferson (Second Team), Tamin Lipsey (Third Team), and Keshon Gilbert (Third Team). The four athletes have provided a bulk of production for the Cyclones this season, posting 54.3 points per game. The health of Keshon Gilbert and Tamin Lipsey will be something to watch, however, as the pair were banged up in the Big 12 Tournament.

Iowa State has made 23 NCAA Tournament appearances while reaching one Final Four. The Cyclones have an overall record of 23-23 in March Madness.
