The Big 12 Conference will send one men’s basketball teams to the NIT and three women’s basketball teams to the Women’s Basketball Invitation Tournament.
Both fields were announced on Sunday after the NCAA Tournament fields were set.
Oklahoma State (15-17) was the only Big 12 team selected because other teams are committed to the College Basketball Crown tournament in Las Vegas, Nev., later this month.
The Cowboys will host a first-round game against the Wichita State Shockers on Tuesday at 8 p.m. in a game broadcast on ESPN2. OSU is the No. 4 seed in the Dallas Region.
The Women’s Basketball Invitation Tournament, which is run by the NCAA, three Big 12 teams were invited to play.
The Colorado Buffaloes (20-12) was named a No. 1 seed and will host throughout their bracket play. If the Buffs get out of their bracket, they will play in the Final Four on March 31 and April 2 at Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Ind.
Colorado will face Southeastern Louisiana on Thursday. A win there would allow the Buffs to host either Gonzaga or UTSA in the second round.
Arizona (19-13) was slotted as a No. 3 seed in a bracket where James Madison was the No. 1 seed. The Wildcats will host Northern Arizona on Thursday.
Texas Tech (17-17) received an invitation and will play in a bracket in which Virginia Tech is the No. 1 seed. The Lady Raiders will head to Wyoming for a first-round game against the Cowboys on Thursday.
Any remaining Big 12 women’s teams could be invited to the WNIT, which will announce its field on Monday. Cincinnati (15-14) and Kansas (16-14) are the remaining teams with an overall winning record. Kansas won the WNIT title in 2023.
The College Basketball Crown is expected to announce its field on Monday. Per Brandon Helwig at UCF Sports, the Knights (17-16) have accepted a bid.
Last week in Kansas City, Big 12 commissioner Brett Yormark said two teams would receive automatic bids to the event. Based on Big 12 standings and which teams didn’t make the NCAA Tournament, West Virginia and TCU are the most likely teams to earn those automatic bids.
Kansas State coach Jerome Tang told Kellis Robinett of the Wichita Eagle that he was not interested in accepting a bid to either tournament.
