Texas Tech's NiJaree Canady pitches against Oklahoma State during a Big 12 Conference softball game, Sunday, March 9, 2025, at Rocky Johnson Field.

It’s only March, there are still a lot of games left in the season, and we’ve seen just two weeks of Big 12 play. Still, we’re right around halfway through the 2025 college softball season, and at this point, we’ve got enough to start building out a legitimate power ranking for the league.

After some surprising outcomes in the first weekend, we saw things settle down for a few teams. Here’s how Big 12 softball stacks up heading into the third weekend of conference play.

1. Texas Tech Red Raiders (Last Week: 1)

Record: 23-7 (5-1 Big 12)

Baylor is nowhere near the team that we thought they would be entering the 2025 season, but outscoring anyone 21-1, including 14-0 in a single game, is impressive enough to keep the Red Raiders in the top spot of our Power Rankings. TTU ranks 11th nationally in ERA (1.95), and with the 36th-best scoring offense (6.60 ppg), that’s gonna win them a lot of games.

2. Arizona Wildcats (Last Week: 3)

Record: 27-4 (4-2 Big 12)

Arizona got back on track with a sweep of Utah this past weekend, and has now won six games in a row after starting 0-2 in Big 12 play. In fact, the Wildcats have outscored opponents 44-10 with three shutouts during that stretch. This weekend’s series against Arizona State is suddenly must-see TV.

3. Arizona State Sun Devils (Last Week: 5)

Record: 22-8 (4-2 Big 12)

The Big 12 appears to be setting up to be as unpredictable a conference as there is in softball. Arizona State has two series wins on the year with 2-1 advantages over BYU and then UCF in Orlando after they knocked off Arizona. Their series in Tempe this weekend will be paramount.

4. Oklahoma State Cowgirls (Last Week: 4)

Record: 17-6 (2-2 Big 12)

Oklahoma State had to cancel the first two games of their series against Houston due to fires in Stillwater, but they were able to close out the weekend with a 3-0 victory over the Cougars. They’ll get Baylor this weekend and could really use a sweep to get things going in the right direction.

5. UCF Knights (Last Week: 2)

Record: 20-11-1 (3-3 Big 12)

Since taking a 2-0 series lead against Arizona, UCF has gone 1-4 and has been outscored 23-5 in the losses. Their lone win in that stretch, an 11-0 victory over Arizona State, shows what this team can do when they put everything together, but they’ll have to be more consistent.

6. Houston Cougars (Last Week: 6)

Record: 17-8 (2-2 Big 12)

7. BYU Cougars (Last Week: 7)

Record: 16-6 (1-2 Big 12)

8. Kansas Jayhawks (Last Week: 8)

Record: 13-10 (2-1 Big 12)

9. Iowa State Cyclones (Last Week: 10)

Record: 11-14 (1-2 Big 12)

10. Baylor Bears (Last Week: 9)

Record: 12-17 (1-5 Big 12)

11. Utah Utes (Last Week: 11)

Record: 8-22 (0-3)
