Texas Tech vs. UNC Wilmington Predictions
The Red Raiders are coming off an incredibly successful regular season, which the group capped off at No. 9 in the AP Top 25. The team is led by Big 12 Player of the Year JT Toppin, along with some bright stars in the starting lineup, a group that features Toppin, Darrion Williams, Chance McMillian, Christian Anderson, and Elijah Hawkins. Collectively, the group averages 66.5 points per game on the Big 12’s third-best offense.
On the opposite end of the court, UNC Wilmington is a team that loves to light it up on offense. They finished the regular season off averaging 79.4 points per game, which ranks as the best unit in the Colonial Athletic Association. Their biggest threat to Texas Tech is senior guard Donovan Newby, who is having an explosive final year of collegiate basketball. In 2024-25, Newby is averaging a team-high 14.6 points, 3.5 assists, and 2.7 rebounds per game.
While Texas Tech has been dealing with some injuries lately, the Red Raiders are too complete of a team to fall to the Seahawks in the opening round.
