The Big 12 Conference is off to a 9-1 start in the 2025 NCAA Tournament. And the league has a chance to tie history on Sunday, but it will take another clean sweep in their three games.
The Big 12 punched three Sweet 16 tickets on Saturday in Houston, BYU and Texas Tech. And if the league can win their other three games on Sunday, they would tie the ACC in 2016 for the only conference to have six teams reach a Sweet 16.
But this would require Baylor to beat Duke, Iowa State to take care of Ole Miss and Arizona to handle Oregon.
Several conferences have gotten five teams into the Sweet 16, including the Big 12 in 2018. But no one has matched the ACC’s record performance from 2016.
Saturday’s Second Round March Madness Scores
On Saturday, there were three Big 12 teams trying to punch tickets to the Sweet 16. The day began with No. 3 Texas Tech beating No. 11 Drake 77-64, as the Red Raiders advance to the Sweet 16 for the first time since 2022 under Mark Adams.
Then, it was No. 6 BYU handling No. 3 Wisconsin 91-89. This is the Cougars first trip to the Sweet 16 since 2011 under Dave Rose when BYU was a member of the Mountain West Conference.
And finally, the No. 1 seed Houston Cougars handled No. 8 Gonzaga 81-76. A trip to the Sweet 16 is nothing new for Houston, who has made is to the second weekend of the NCAA Tournament for the third straight season. Now, the Cougars are two wins away from their first Final 4 since 2021.
