The West Virginia basketball program has been through a lot in the last couple of weeks, and it appears that the hits just keep on coming.

On Wednesday, sophomore guard Sencire Harris announced on social media that he intends to enter the transfer portal ahead of the 2025-26 season. Harris will have two years of eligibility remaining.

“I want to take a moment to express my deepest gratitude to West Virginia University and the entire basketball program. From the coaching staff to my teammates, and especially Mountaineer Nation, your unwavering support has meant the world to me. The memories we’ve created together, both on and off the court, will stay with me forever.

“After careful consideration and reflection, I have decided to enter the transfer portal. This was not an easy decision, but I believe it is the best step for my growth as a player and as a person. Thank you, West Virginia, for everything. Once a Mountaineer, Always a Mountaineer.”

Harris appeared in 32 games this season, averaging 5.9 points, 4.3 rebounds, 1.7 steals, and 1.6 assists per game. While he wasn’t a heavy contributor offensively, Harris’s motor and effort on the defensive end earned him a spot on the Big 12 All-Defensive team after the regular season.

After being snubbed from the NCAA Tournament and losing Darian DeVries to Indiana just last week, West Virginia has had it about as tough as anyone in the country.

But, it appears that there could be light on the horizon, as Jon Rothstein suggests that the Mountaineers have a “serious candidate” emerging for their head coaching vacancy.
