Following a brutal loss to the Alabama Crimson Tide in the Sweet 16, BYU star guard Egor Demin commented on his future with the program.

Demin is expected to be a lottery pick in the 2025 NBA Draft but has been under the microscope recently, as many have begun questioning his desire to leave Kevin Young and the Cougars.

“I think this is the start of something really beautiful, and as you know, AJ’s [Dybantsa] coming, and he could be one of the reasons why I would want to be back next year,” Demin said. “KY [Kevin Young] is a great guy, and I’m super grateful for everything he did, and the thing I can say is that my decision earlier in the summer to come here wasn’t a mistake at all.”

AJ Dyantsa, known for being the top-ranked player in the Class of 2026, has already earned numerous comparisons to LeBron James and other stars, effectively dubbed the league’s next superstar. If Demin were to return, his lottery status likely wouldn’t take much of a hit as his floor has been incredibly high throughout his first year of collegiate hoops.

Still, it makes for a tough decision for the former Euroleaguer.

ESPN recently listed Demin as the 12th-best prospect in the upcoming draft, and should he choose to return to BYU, Demin and Dybantsa would form two pieces in an incredible starting five for Kevin Young’s 2025-26 group.

Demin finished his thoughts by saying, “I’m super proud of my family who helped me to make this decision and for everything we have done with coaching stuff, with our guys, our family.”
