It’s been a rough couple of days for the Kansas basketball program, as Bill Self and the Jayhawks have watched five players exit the program via the transfer portal since Friday.
It started with Zach Clemence on Friday, followed by star freshman Flory Bidunga, Rakease Passmore and David Coit through Saturday and Sunday.
Then, on Monday, Rylan Griffen decided to depart from the program as well, leaving Self little experience to work with outside of AJ Storr.
Of course, Kansas basketball has always built it’s strength on consistently adding elite high school talent, and the 2025 class is no different.
Darryn Peterson, a five-star Kansas signee and No. 2 overall player in the 2025 class, is set to arrive in Lawrence in the coming weeks. But, with all of the players exiting the program, it’s safe to wonder where his mind is.
During his appearance at McDonald’s All-American Media Day, Peterson said that he spoke with Bill Self today about the exodus.
“Are you worried,” Self asked Peterson.
“No.”
“You better not be.”
Peterson is a day-one talent that will step right in and compete for a starting job with KU in 2025, and with several roster spots open, he’ll likely have plenty of incoming help alongside him.
After starting out the 2024 season as the No. 1 team in the country, Kansas finished up the year with a 21-13 record and outside the Top 25.
