Joey McGuire and the Texas Tech Red Raiders made all sorts of waves in the December transfer portal cycle a few months ago, and it appears that they might be looking to add even more to their haul ahead of 2025.

The Red Raiders’ top-ranked portal class currently consists of 17 additions, including 10 four-star transfers. Both of those numbers could be set to rise, however, as reports suggest that TTU is in play for the top overall player available right now.

According to On3’s Pete Nakos, the Red Raiders are currently hosting Stanford EDGE David Bailey for a visit and appear to be right in the mix to land his services.

Bailey, listed at 6-foot-3, 250 pounds, is a graduate transfer and ranks as the No. 8 overall player in this portal cycle and the No. 1 player available at this time.

In three seasons with the Cardinal, Bailey amassed 111 tackles, 22.5 tackles for loss, and 14.5 sacks, and in 2024, he had 31 total tackles, eight tackles for loss, 7.0 sacks, and five forced fumbles.

Bailey is expected to be an early-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft and would be a monumental pickup for the Red Raiders if they’re able to close the deal. It won’t be easy, however, as they’ll likely have to stave off several other big players for his services next season.
