It was another wild week of Big 12 softball, with major upsets in the midweek coupled with all kinds of chaos in conference play from Friday to Sunday.

The most notable midweek performance was UCF’s 4-0 triumph over the third-ranked Florida Gators, undoubtedly their biggest single-game victory of the year.

Freshman pitcher Isabella Vega was paramount in the win, throwing a complete-game shutout with just five hits allowed, one walk surrendered, and four strikeouts.

Her efforts not only earned her a big-time win, but it also designated her as the D1Softball Freshman of the Week.

In addition to her win over UF, Vega also picked up her first career save over the weekend against Baylor and had 18 strikeouts over 17 innings pitched.

Vega maintains a 1.16 ERA on the year and holds a 6-3 record as a starter. The Knights are 22-16-1 on the year and have a 4-8 record in Big 12 play.
