With just three games left in the NCAA Tournament, the basketball coaching carousel is in high gear and has several high-profile names moving all over the country.

One of the latest developments is Texas A&M head coach Buzz Williams leaving the Aggies’ program to take the Maryland job on Tuesday.

Now, with the folks in College Station looking for the next man to lead their program, it appears a familiar face could be headed back to the Lone Star State.

According to college basketball insider John Goodman, former Texas Tech and Texas head coach Chris Beard, now at Ole Miss, has emerged as a “primary candidate” for the job.

Beard left Texas Tech to take the Texas job in 2021 and was with the Longhorns until about the midway point through the 2022-23 season. Then, in January of ’23, Beard was fired after domestic violence charges were filed against him for an incident that occurred with his fiance on December 12, 2022.

The charges were dropped shortly thereafter, and Beard took over the Ole Miss program in 2023, where he remains to this day. The Rebels are fresh off a Sweet 16 appearance in the 2025 NCAA Tournament and have been asscending under his leadership.

However, it appears he could be in the running to swap teams in the same conference for the second time in the last several years. This will definitely be a story worth following the coming days, so stay tuned.
