According to a report from SicEm365’s Grayson Grundhoefer, redshirt freshman safety Josh Lair is no longer part of the Baylor football team.

A former four-star prospect (per SicEm365) in the Class of 2024, Lair held offers from programs like Texas, LSU, Florida, Oklahoma, Oregon, Michigan, and Tennessee. He originally signed with Washington in December of 2023, but opted out after Kalen DeBour left to take the Alabama job.

Ultimately, Lair decided to stay home and play for the Bears, just a few hours up Highway 6 from his hometown of Missouri City.

During his senior year at  Fort Bend (TX) Marshall High School, Lair totaled 52 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, and an interception.

When he arrived in Waco, Lair was expected to be the kind of player that could make an impact from the get-go.

Despite his high expectations, Lair didn’t see the field as a true freshman and redshirted in 2024. However, he showed plenty of promise and has a ceiling that would ultimately put him on the field sooner rather than later.

Now, the 6-foot-1, 190-pound freshman will be forced to try and find another program to contribute for after leaving the Bears program during the spring portion of 2025.
