According to a report from ESPN’s Myron Medcalf, the Baylor Bears are set to lose Big 12 All-Freshman selection Robert Wright III to the transfer portal after just one season in Waco.

The decision, an impactful one at that, has left the Baylor program stunned, as Medcalf reported on Monday morning.

“The team had been under the impression that Wright had planned to remain at Baylor before his surprising decision,” Medcalf wrote on X. “The Bears said no to multiple elite players with the assumption that Wright had planned to stay, sources told ESPN.”

Wright appeared in 35 games and made 21 starts for the Bears in 2024-25 and was expected to play a starting role for Scott Drew next season.

He averaged 11.5 points, 2.1 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game, playing just under 30 minutes per contest this season. The immediate impact came as no surprise, as Wright was the No. 27 overall player and No. 2 point guard in the 2024 class.

Wright showed what he’s capable of in a two-game stretch against BYU and Kansas when he had 22 and 24 points, respectively. In those contests, he was a combined 15-of-28 from the fieldwith 12 assists and six rebounds, plus logged a perfect 14-for-14 mark at the free-throw line.

Wright also played well in the NCAA Tournament, scoring 19 points against Mississippi State and 11 points against Duke.

Baylor now has six players leaving the program via the transfer portal, with Wright joining Omar Adegbola, Jason Asemota, Jalen Celestine, Langston Love, and Yanis Ndjonga.
