Cincinnati Bearcats guard Dan Skillings Jr. (0) hits a layup around Oklahoma State Cowboys guard Javon Small (12) and Oklahoma State Cowboys center Brandon Garrison (23) as Cincinnati Bearcats forward Aziz Bandaogo (55) looks on in the first half of the NCAA basketball game between Cincinnati Bearcats and Oklahoma State Cowboys at Fifth Third Arena in Cincinnati on Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2024.

Cincinnati basketball will be without starting shooting guard Dan Skillings Jr. for 2025-26 as he plans to enter the transfer portal after three seasons with the Bearcats.

Skillings appeared in 29 games for Cincy last season and averaged 9.2 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game while shooting 44% from the floor and 29.9% from three.

The best season of his career came in 2023-24, when Skillings averaged a career-best 12.9 points per game over 36 contests.

Originally a four-star prospect in 2022, Skillings played high school at Philadelphia (Pa.) Roman Catholic, and was the No. 2 overall prospect in the state of Pennsylvania and the No. 13 shooting guard in his class.

Skillings made his announcement via social media, directly speaking to Bearcat fans.

“Bearcat fans, where do I start? This has been a long, unforgettable, amazing journey. I have made incredible memories here at the University of Cincinnati. The city of Cincinnati is filled with love, excitement and joy that I would never forget. I appreciate you fans for making my time here at Cincinnati one of the best and most grateful times in my life. I appreciate the entire Cincinnati coaching staff for building me into the player I have became. I want to thank my teammates, GA’s, managers all the way down to the academic teachers for everything they have done for me. You Bearcat fans will always have a special place in my heart.

I have prayed a lot and spoke with God and I know he has things planned for me in the future and I want to continue walking with God through my every choice. With that being said, after a lot of thoughts and conversations with my family and loved ones, I have decided to enter my name in the transfer portal.”

The Bearcats were 19-16 (7-13) in 2024-25 and just missed the NCAA Tournament. They defeated DePaul in the First Round of the Crown Tournament but fell to UCF in the second round.
