AJ Dybansta has been the No. 1 overall player in the 2025 recruiting class for some time now, and his performance in last week’s McDonald’s All-American game justified the ranking.

Against fellow elite high school talents, the 6-foot-9 superstar hit 7 of his 12 attempts from the field and ended the night with 17 points, five rebounds, and one assist.

While impressive, his performance wasn’t good enough to win the event’s MVP award. No, that distinguishment was shared by Darryn Peterson and Cameron Boozer.

Peterson led all players with 18 points on the evening, while Boozer had 16 points to go along with 12 rebounds.

Now, the five-star power forward and future BYU Cougar, finds himself sitting behind one of those guys in the final 2025 recruiting class rankings for 247Sports.

Darryn Peterson, who is signed with the Kansas Jayhawks, will finish as the top-ranked prospect in the class, passing Dybansta in the final turn.

Dybansta didn’t fall far, though, as he’s still rated as a “100” by the site’s measurements and is No. 2 overall.

Meanwhile, Boozer (headed to Duke) comes in as the No. 3 recruiting in the class and rounds out a top-three that all have an argument as the best player in the class.

Peterson, listed at 6-foot-5 out of Napa, California, is as explosive a player as you’ll find in the country. He’s an aggressive, attacking guard who can get downhill in a hurry and play tough defense on the other side of the court.

While we’ve still got a while before the 2025-26 schedule is released, the anticipation for BYU vs. Kansas, a.k.a. Peterson vs. Dybansta, is growing by the day.

Big 12 fans had better savor it, too, as they’ll likely only get one year to soak it in before these guys are both headed to the next level.
