The Houston Cougars are fresh off a heartbreaking loss to Florida in the national championship game on Monday night, and after leading for nearly 39 minutes, it could take a while for them to rebound.
With players like LJ Cryer and J’Wan Roberts set to move on to the next level, there are spots on the Cougars’ starting five up for grabs, but it appears a bench role has now come open as well.
Sophomore guard Terrance Arceneaux announced on X Thursday afternoon that he intends to enter the transfer portal after two seasons with the Coogs.
“Playing at the University of Houston has been a part of my story that I’ll always carry with me,” Arceneaux said. “I’m thankful for the experiences, the teammates who turned into family, the fans who supported us through every win and loss, and the coaches who challenged me to grow both on and off the court and shaped me into who I am today.
“I’m walking away with no bitterness, just growth, gratitude and a clear vision for where I’m headed next. Sometimes the path to purpose requires a pivot, and I’m trusting the process.”
Arceneaux started six games for Houston this season and ranked fifth on the team in scoring, averaging 6.5 points per game, with a season-high 16-point performance against Toledo in December.
In 2024-25, Arceneaux shot 44.3% from the field and 33.7% from three-point range, and is now the first player from Houston’s Final Four team to enter the portal.
The Cougars are set to return starting guards Emanuel Sharp and Milos Uzan in 2025, so the move likely means he’s looking to join a program where he can serve a more significant role.
