West Virginia is in the process of rebuilding their basketball program after Darian DeVries left to take the Indiana job, but Ross Hodge is doing a bang-up job of bringing talent to Morgantown.

Just a few days after adding the AAC Sixth Man of the Year, Hodge and the Mountaineers are grabbing one of the best players out of the CAA, with UNC Wilmington center Harlan Obioha.

Obioha is listed at 7-foot-0, 280 pounds, and was very productive in his lone season for the Seahawks, averaging 9.2 points and 6.0 rebounds per game. He recorded a career-high 23 points, along with 10 rebounds against William & Mary in February.

Coach Hodge announced the addition of Obioha on Friday, pointing out his tournament experience and physical presence as obvious advantages.

“We are excited to welcome Harlan to Morgantown,” Hodge said. “He has been part of winning a championship and brings NCAA Tournament experience with him. He has continued to get better throughout the course of his college career and gives us a physical presence on both ends of the floor.”

Throughout the 2024-25 season, Obioha recorded five double-doubles and shot 63.9% from the floor.

Obioha played one game against Big 12 competition this season, with UNCW’s first-round NCAA Tournament game falling against Texas Tech. In 23 minutes against the Red Raiders, Obioha recorded seven points, nine rebounds, one assist, and one block. He was also 3-for-3 from the free-throw line in that contest and shot 64.0% on the year.
