Texas Tech basketball continues to try and build on its Elite 8 run in the NCAA Tournament and clean up on the recruiting trail. And on Friday night, On3 reported that 2026 five-star recruit Miikka Muurinen is set to visit the Red Raiders next weekend.
Muurinen is 6’10” and 200 pounds. The Finnish basketball player has been in the states for the last couple of seasons, playing at Sunrise Christian High School Academy in Wichita, Kansas, before moving to Arizona Compass Prep high school for the 2024-25 season.
Muurinen has offers from the top programs in the country, but according to the On3 predictor, the Arkansas Razorbacks are in the top slot, but not by a wide margin (27.7%). Texas Tech and Michigan are both over 20%, with Utah at 17%.
Muurinen comes from a basketball background. Both of his parents are former professional basketball players. His father Kimmo Muurinen played 153 games for Finland national team, and his mother Jenni Laaksonen played college basketball for North Carolina and represented Finland women’s national basketball team in 68 games.
Grant McCasland has stayed busy on the recruiting trail. On Wednesday afternoon, the Texas Tech Red Raiders added a new name in the transfer portal with the commitment of Santa Clara guard Tyeree Bryan.
Bryan, a 6-foot-5 senior from Orlando, Florida, spent the past two seasons with the Broncos, where he developed into a star in the backcourt.
Last season at Santa Clara, the Florida native posted 10.4 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game on 46.3% shooting from the field. He also connected on 42.9% of his shots from three-point land and 65.3% from the free-throw line.
