One of the most important things that Tommy Lloyd and Arizona basketball needed to address this offseason was to land an experienced point guard to spell Jaden Bradley, as KJ Lewis and Conrad Martinez both entered the portal.
According to 247Sports’ Matt Zenitz, they did just that with the addition of Harvard guard Evan Nelson on Thursday evening.
Listed at 6-foot-2, 170 pounds, Nelson is a Tuscon native and is returning home to play for his dream school after spending four seasons with the Crimson.
Despite missing the entire 2023-24 season due to injury, Nelson appeared in 68 games and started 50, shooting 41.5% from the field and averaging 8.2 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game.
In his final season at Harvard, Nelson averaged a career-high 45.5% from the field and 40.4% from three-point range. He also notched career highs in points (9.1), rebounds (3.0), and steals (1.4).
With Nelson now on board, and the Wildcats set to add one of the deepest freshman classes in the country, it appears Lloyd and the Wildcats have a contender once again.
Arizona ended the 2024-25 season with a 24-13 record and a 14-6 mark in the Big 12, and saw their year come to a close against Duke in the Sweet 16.
