We are just a little over a week away from the start of the 2025 NFL Draft. And for the last few months, the Tennessee Titans have officially been on the clock since they have the number one overall pick.

Last season, the Titans went 3-14 under first-year head coach Brian Callahan. It’s pretty obvious that Tennessee is going to take a quarterback with the number one pick, but believe it or not, they have actually drafted two quarterbacks in the first three rounds in the last three drafts. One is Will Levis, and the other is Malik Willis, who now plays for the Green Bay Packers.

Even though neither player became the franchise player they all hoped for, it is clear that the Titans do have better options in this year’s draft compared to previous years. One is due to the players, and two due to where they are picking from.

The question isn’t if they are going to take a quarterback, but the question is which quarterback will they take? Miami’s Cam Ward is the heavy favorite to be the number one pick, while Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders isn’t too far behind.

Cam Ward’s path to the draft is remarkably interesting. He came out of high school with just one scholarship offer, which was Incarnate Word. After two outstanding seasons there, he transferred to Washington State and spent another two years there before finally landing at Miami, where he arguably had his best collegiate season.

Last year, Cam threw for over 4,300 yards, along with 39 touchdown passes and just seven picks. He also completed over 67% of his passes, which was a career high. There’s a reason why people believe he will be the number one pick. Ward can throw the ball into tight windows, and he’s got a big arm to go with it. He loves the deep ball, and he’s hit it big throughout his college career at every level.

As for Shedeur Sanders, he also has an interesting path to the draft. He started his career at Jackson State, where his father was the head coach, before moving with him to Colorado for the past two seasons. At Jackson State, Sanders finished with 70 touchdown passes to just 14 picks. And at Colorado, he finished with 64 touchdowns to 13 interceptions and had an absurd 74% completion percentage last season.

While Sanders may not have the velocity that Cam has on his throws, he is better at buying time in the pocket. Shedeur has a confidence to him that is contagious, and he always keeps his eyes downfield, looking to make a play. To put it simply, in today’s game where quarterbacks are afraid to take that extra millisecond to make a better throw and get hit, Sanders is not.

Some may say that Sanders gets himself into trouble always looking for the big play and running around I would argue he had to do that a lot of times because of what he had in front of him. Shedeur had one of the worst offensive lines in college football, and he put up crazy numbers despite that, which makes his performance that much better. He didn’t have the same level of talent around him as Cam Ward had at Miami.

At the end of the day, you really can’t go wrong with either guy. Both are outstanding players in their own right but personally, I would go with Shedeur Sanders. Maybe I am biased since I cover the Big 12 but after watching him week in and week out I believe he is the best player in this year’s draft class.
